Joins With Citizens, Other Candidates, to Advance Healthcare Dialog
Donna Campbell, emergency room doctor and Republican candidate for U.S. Congressional District 25 (TX), helped lead a forum on health care reform on Monday, November 30th. The Austin town hall was hosted by the Texas Chapter of Americans for Prosperity.
Joining Campbell as panelists were fellow congressional candidates George Morovich (Rep.) and Jim Stutsman (Lib.). Campbell and her peers lined out their views on the nation’s current health care system and provided ideas to ensure Americans would have the top-notch medical care that providers, insurers and users can all afford. Absent from the discussion was District 25 Democratic incumbent Rep. Lloyd Doggett, who did not respond to the AFP’s invitation.
“Well, while Congressman Doggett apparently had what he thought were more important places to be last night, I’m thankful that so many of his constituents made the effort to come out and help put the brakes on the plan being cooked up by him and his cohorts in Washington,” said Campbell, noting the more than 100 private citizens who participated in the town hall. “What’s brewing up now is nothing more than the makings of a hostile federal takeover of our health care system, and this sort of intrusion into state and private rights has got to stop. Enough is enough!”
Dr. Campbell delivered her prescription for true, meaningful healthcare reform, which includes removing employers from the insurance purchasing process in order to allow employees to make individual choices while working directly with insurers.
“The removal of employers as ‘middle men’ would also afford employees more companies from which to choose and induce true health care portability when changing employers,” Campbell noted.
Also featured in her plan is a “work for benefits” concept, where able-bodied beneficiaries of health care services unable to pay the related medical bills would instead have the opportunity to work in their communities to zero out the balance.
After a spirited, lively and productive discussion, Dr. Campbell and her peers closed out the town hall by taking questions directly from audience members.
“I think this is a part of the job that Congressman Doggett has either lost touch with, or never had a grasp of to begin with,” Campbell said. “Listening to people is what keeps this Democracy of ours intact, but just talking to them, or worse, over them, will only invite the decay that has been setting in on America over the last two years.”
Dr. Donna Campbell has both a B.S. and M.S. in nursing and is medical director at the emergency room for two hospitals. In April of this year, she announced her candidacy for Congress, vowing to help set the nation back on a course in line with our Constitution if elected. “America is in the emergency room and it’s time to stop the bleeding,” noted Campbell.
