Putting American Families Back to Work
With unemployment hovering around 10%, this Congress has failed to take the steps necessary to put Americans back to work. They have ignored the real crisis facing families in this country, a sputtering economy and lack of jobs, to instead focus on an unwanted health care bill. At the same time, they have attacked businesses and free markets when we should be encouraging them, doing everything we can to help them expand so they can hire new workers. Enough is enough.
Dr. Donna Campbell will create jobs and help businesses by cutting taxes and easing regulations that stifle investment and growth. She will vote against the cap-and-trade tax supported by Lloyd Doggett and Nancy Pelosi, which would cost every American family an additional $1800 a year in higher energy bills. She will also vote to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, which have saved the average middle class family around $10,000 since they were enacted in 2002.
Donna Campbell strongly supports tax reform, including passage of the Fair Tax, which would replace our confusing and complicated income tax system with a simple sales tax similar to what exists in Texas today. Under the Fair Tax, the headaches and frustrations of filing an accurate tax return every April 15 will be eliminated, the IRS will be abolished, and every worker will get to keep every dime they make. Every citizen will be taxed only on what they spend, not on what they earn, ensuring more money stays in local communities.
Putting more money in the pockets of working Americans is the fastest, most effective way to permanently jump-start the economy, and the Fair Tax achieves this. More dollars will stay local, meaning more revenue for neighborhoods, schools, and small businesses. Most importantly, it returns power to the people. After all, it's your money and you know best how to spend it, not the unaccountable bureaucrats and special interests groups in Washington.
How Donna Campbell’s Opponent Differs:
Lloyd Doggett may claim he’s a moderate, but he’s never voted to allow hard-working Americans to keep more of their paychecks. He voted against the Bush tax cuts. He also voted for the trillion dollar failed stimulus bill and three fiscal budgets that added 4.5 trillion dollars to the federal deficit. He voted to raise energy prices by supporting the cap-and-trade tax, and he has voiced his approval for more tax increases, including raising the income and payroll tax. In fact, when it comes to raising taxes, Lloyd Doggett voted with his equally ultra liberal boss Nancy Pelosi nearly 100% of the time.
